Type in the box or paste a draft. It stays in this tab: nothing is sent anywhere or saved.
Each network shows what you have used and what is left. X is counted by its own rules; the rest by what you see.
Cut to fit the strictest network you are posting to, or write a shorter version just for it.
The numbers this counter measures against.
These are the limits Bolt Claw checks before it publishes to each network. A network’s own app can allow a different length in places, such as a bio, a comment or a paid tier.
| Network | Limit | What counts |
|---|---|---|
| 2,200 (caption) | Every character, space, line break, hashtag and emoji in the caption. | |
| 63,206 (post) | The post text. Long posts are folded behind See more in the feed. | |
| Threads | 500 (post) | The post text, links and hashtags included. |
| Bluesky | 300 (post) | What you see: an emoji, even a family or a flag, counts once. |
| X | 280 (post) | Links count as 23 whatever their length; emoji and Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters count as 2. |
| TikTok | 2,200 (caption) | The caption, hashtags and mentions included. |
| 3,000 (post) | The post text. Only the first lines show before see more. | |
| YouTube | 5,000 (description) | The video description. The title has its own limit of 100. |
| 800 (pin description) | The Pin description. The Pin title has its own limit of 100. |
Why one emoji can be one character, or two.
What you see as one character can be several to a computer. A flag, an emoji with a skin tone or a family emoji is several code points joined together, and an accented letter can be two. This counter counts what you see, so each of those is one. That is how Bluesky counts, and how Bolt Claw checks a post before it sends it.
X weighs each character. Most letters and punctuation, in Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Arabic, Hebrew, the Indian scripts and Thai among others, count as one. Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters and every emoji count as two. Every link counts as 23, however long or short it is, because X shortens it. The X bar in the counter follows those rules.
The honest list, so nothing surprises you at the last step.
What people ask before they use it, answered plainly.
280 for a standard account. X counts every link as 23 characters whatever its length, and counts emoji and Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters as two. X Premium subscribers can post longer in X's own app.
2,200 characters. Only the first line or two show in the feed before the caption is folded, so put the point first.
300 characters, counted as you see them, so an emoji is one. Bluesky also caps a post at 3,000 bytes, which only matters for long runs of emoji.
It depends on the network. X counts each emoji as two. Bluesky counts what you see, so a family emoji is one. This counter shows one per emoji everywhere except X, so leave a little room on a network that counts them differently.
Yes, on every network. A line break is a character, so a caption laid out over many short lines uses more of the limit than it looks.
No. The counting happens in your browser, and the text is gone when you close the tab.
When the post is ready, the Bolt Claw social media scheduler checks it against each network’s limit as you write, then publishes it to every account you pick at the time you set.
Bolt Claw schedules one post to every network you connect and tells you where it runs long. Free to start.
